What is Laghima Siddhi? Best The Yogic Power of Lightness and Levitation

Laghima Siddhi is one of the eight siddhis that are mentioned in Yogic Sutras like Patanjali’s. It is also mentioned in religious scriptures like the Hanuman Chalisa! Siddhis are the powers that can be attained by deep meditation and yogic devotion! Laghima Siddhi is the power of becoming as light as air so that one can travel anywhere effortlessly and float in the air during Sadhana!

According to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, if a person dedicates his/her period of life and years to practicing various forms of Yamas, Taps, Dhyana, and Dharna, he/she will be able to go beyond the limitations of his physical body and become light in physical and spiritual terms! By doing so, a human can break physical limits, including gravity, and can actually make the body so light that it can fly like a soft wing in the air!

The Meaning and Sanskrit Origin of Laghima

If we talk about the Sanskrit origin of this power, then its name comes from a Sanskrit term: Laghima! Laghima means to become Light or Subtle!! It is a command over gravity. It is believed that with this yogic power, one can rise above the gravitational pull just like Lord Hanuman could! He could fly effortlessly in the air despite his heavy body build. Similarly, several yogis are believed to have this virtue after years of spiritual discipline and yogic pursuits!

Moreover, Laghima Siddhi is not some magic or supernatural power; it is more like enhancing consciousness through the power of manifestation!

How Laghima Siddhi Works as per The Patanjali Sutras?

Laghima Siddhi

On the basis of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, if one spends time and years practicing various forms of Yamas, Taps, Dhyana, and Dharna, he/she will transcend the limitations of the physical body and gain the ability to be light physically and spiritually! More like unbothered by any burden or chains! This requires a lot of concentration and manifestation. Apart from the physical realm, this power also helps yogis to stay unbothered by any emotional or mental ties!

It is a journey that rewards one with a very unique and rare fruit of becoming weightless! This might sound like a fantasy, but it is real and mentioned in the Patanjali Sutras! However, this journey might sound like normal yogic living, but it is much more than that! Disciplined practices, years of consistency, inner cleanliness, focus, and strength lead to such yogic experiences, which are really rare!

How Ancient Yogis Cultivated Laghima Siddhi?

Udana Vayu & Pranayama

Laghima Siddhi

There are five major vayus of Prana! One of which is Udana Vayu! It is said to be the life energy that tends to move upwards. With a lot of niyamas, sadhanas, and yogic practices like pranayama, one can gain control over the Udana Vayu. As its tendency is to move upward, it helps one to rise above the earth against gravity!

Sattvic Diet and Purification of the Physical Body

Myths vs Reality: Is Physical Levitation Real?

Laghima Siddhi

Laghima Siddhi means to become extremely weightless! Most of the time, it is also interpreted as a virtue to make the body very light and fly above the ground! However, the ancient Vedic scriptures and yogic texts have claimed that profound yogis had the power of rising above the ground during deep yogic meditations. Even Lord Hanuman was blessed with this siddhi along with the other seven siddhis by Maa Sita! It is believed that even today some profound sages have mastered this Laghima Siddhi!

However, in Kaliyug, that is,s this current modern era, Laghima Siddhi is considered more about emotional and spiritual awakening;it is more about making oneself light from inside by rising above all the earthly, mental, and physical ties!
